Always choose a reputable Carlton real estate agent

By Louise Morrin

Buying Carlton property could be one of the biggest purchases you'll ever make, so it's easy to see why so many people appoint an agent to guide them through the process. Not only can a real estate agent in Carlton help you find a home that meets your criteria, but they can also offer other professional advice that will prove invaluable to your search.

The Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) is calling for higher standards across the sector, to make sure people get access to fair and expert advice whenever they approach an agent. Every member of the team at Ray White Carlton is a real estate specialist, with the highest levels of qualifications and experience.

Skills to look for in a real estate agent

REINSW highlights just how important professional qualifications are in this particular industry. President John Cunningham explained that standards have gradually been slipping over the past decade, which in some cases makes it more difficult for people to separate good companies from bad ones.

"On the surface real estate sales and management appear to be very simple," Mr Cunningham said.

"However it is in reality a very complex and multi-layered process that requires a high level of knowledge and diverse skills to carry it out in a professional manner."

IBISWorld reveals that there are more than 36,000 businesses in the real estate services industry across Australia. While not all of these will offer agents' services, it shows just how big the market really is.

In fact, the sector has grown at an annual rate of around 3.4 per cent, so there's every chance that more players will enter the market over the coming years.

What REINSW is proposing is that greater training opportunities are offered to new agents. This will help avoid some problems that occur in the market, including a lack of knowledge of local properties and restrictions that arise in certain areas.
