When you move your family to a new area, it's likely one of the first things on your list is to check where the nearest hospital is and what the facilities are.
Fortunately for those living in real estate in St George, there's a hospital not very far away.
Recently, the St George Hospital saw its brand new emergency department open up to the public. This $41 million addition will provide much-needed facilities for the growing St George area.
Some of the new facilities included are five resuscitation bays, Emergency Medial Unit, more ambulance drop-off zones and an acute hall with 34 treatment spaces.
NSW health minister Jillian Skinner attended the open day on 30 August and said this emergency unit will be one of the busiest in the state. As such, the development aimed to cater for this to ensure that patients are able to be seen in a timely manner.
"The NSW government recognises that St George Hospital serves a fast-growing part of southern Sydney and the northern Illawarra," said Mrs Skinner.
The current design of the new emergency department has also left space for future development, should the hospital need to add more in later years.
