Feeling the chill? Tips for keeping your Carlton home toasty this winter

By Louise Morrin

With Jack Frost just around the corner, now's the perfect time to begin preparing your home for the cooler winter weather heading toward Australia.

It's time to evaluate your home – especially if this is your first winter living there – and make the right adjustments before the cold season well and truly settles in.

One thing to keep in mind is whether or not your home is insulated. This can make all the difference, as the additional layer of material in your walls, roof and floor will help reduce heat loss.

Be sure to get the main living spaces and the bedrooms in your property in Carlton insulated to make your evenings as pleasant as possible.

Furthermore, now's the time to bust out the heaters. But be careful when using these and avoid having them near flammable objects like blankets, sheets or clothing.

If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, now is a great time to start looking into cleaning it. You don't want to wait until it's freezing to find out you have a blockage that needs to be removed.
