Looking for a Carlton property with a pool?

By Louise Morrin

If you're interested in securing a home with a pool, it could be worth investigating property in Carlton, as Sydney ranks third nationally for pool ownership. Across the country, 12 per cent of all households have a swimming pool, which is good news considering that the 2014/15 summer was recorded as the fifth hottest ever.

Specifically, 16 per cent of Sydney households have a swimming pool. This places the city in third place, behind Perth and regional Queensland. If you're interested in buying a home with a pool, your chances could be relatively high looking into the New South Wales capital city's real estate market.

Roy Morgan Research group account director Angela Smith said a lower annual income between regional towns and capital cities could be the reason for a higher proportion of pools in the capital, with pools generally being an expensive addition to a home.

"Factor in additional, fluctuating influences such as water restrictions and consumer confidence, and it becomes even more important for pool and spa retailers to understand their target market in depth: where they live, their financial circumstances, and what kind of household they live in, for starters," said Ms Smith in a 25 March statement.
