If you own Carlton real estate and are lucky enough to have a pool on your property, it’s important you remain up to date with NSW pool regulations.
The NSW Government has an updated list of requirements available on their website, but here’s a quick rundown of what you need to know.
All new pools and those built after July 1 2010, must be surrounded by a fence separating the pool from the home. Pools constructed between August 1 1990, and July 1 2010, may be exempt from this rule if they are on very small, large or waterfront properties.
Fence height should be at least 1.2m above the ground, and the gap between the bottom of the pool fence and ground should not be more than 10cm.
Make sure latches are working properly and gates are closed at all times to avoid any safety mishaps. Fences shouldn’t be climbable, and should be clear from trees or other objects that could be used to facilitate someone climbing into the pool area.
Supervise children near the pool at all times and ensure that they feel confident in the water by enrolling them in swimming lessons as soon as you can.
