Encouraging our children to get out and about is an important part of helping them maintain a healthy lifestyle and fight back against growing obesity rates. And this Friday (13 March), the National Ride2School Day could be a great opportunity for your kids to get a taste of riding to school – as well as getting you out with them for some time every morning.
Thus far, 374 New South Wales schools have signed up for the event – up from 298 last year. Lord mayor Clover Moore said that while most families live within 2 kilometers of their children's school, only 20 per cent ride or walk to school.
"It's great to see more schools encouraging school kids to ride or walk to school. This event is an opportunity to teach children to ride safely and highlights the enormous benefits riding delivers for health and wellbeing, as well as for reducing congestion around our schools," said Ms Moore in a 5 March statement.
"Children who ride to school arrive alert and ready for a day of learning. By making exercise part of their daily routine, these children are on track to lead an active and healthy lifestyle as adults."
This could be a great opportunity for those living in real estate in Carlton to help establish healthy exercise habits with your children, and maybe even inspire yourself to make a change to your daily commute.
