New Home Sales See Strong Growth Throughout 2013

By Louise Morrin

New home sales were on the rise during December 2013, according to the Housing Industry Association (HIA).

The organisation reported that new home sales rose from a low in 2012 to reach their first annual increase in five years during 2013.

“During the final quarter of 2013, aggregate new home sales climbed by 6.3 per cent to reach a level not seen since mid-2011,” remarked HIA Economist Diwa Hopkins in a January 30 media release.

“This was at a time when sales activity was being boosted by the government stimulus."

Owners of property in St. George might be interested to know that New South Wales was one of the parts of the country that saw high sales growth, only shortly behind South Australia and Western Australia.

This is even more striking considering that detached house sales actually decreased in Victoria in both December and 2013 as a whole.

For homeowners in the region wondering when to put their properties on the market, the latest data seems to indicate that the time is now.
