Tips for a sustainable summer

By Louise Morrin

Sydney is a city that's known for its goal of becoming sustainable. With many initiatives to reduce the city's carbon footprint, such as Sydney 2030, it's no wonder that many people are taking some of these ideas home with them.

For those living in a property in Carlton or the wider Kogarah area, there's lots you can do to ensure you're living sustainably.

As summer is right around the corner, some households might be getting the fan out of storage or turning on the air-con. But these can use a considerable amount of electricity, especially if you're using them around the clock.

In order to cut down on your electricity usage (and bills!), opt for more eco-friendly models, such as energy efficient air conditioning units. Try to only use the air conditioning in the rooms that you're in, otherwise this power will be going to waste. For other rooms that you're not currently using, think about turning on a fan, as these use less electricity.

Keeping your home well-ventilated with fresh, cool air is also something to bear in mind. Open up windows and doors during the cooler parts of the day to ensure there's a decent amount of air flowing through your property.
