Demand for housing in Sydney has been fiercely strong in recent months, with young professionals, couples and families all wanting to obtain real estate in Carlton and other popular suburbs.

The NSW government is currently in the consultation phase with community members and stakeholders for the new Planning Bill – legislation that aims to create "a modern and easy planning system for the 21st century," according to Planning & Infrastructure NSW.
The Urban Taskforce has commented on the government's drive for new housing and legislative reform, saying that "the industry and the community need leadership on the way forward," in a February 12 statement.
"We believe the government should proceed with the reforms as outlined in their White Paper and that most of this can be done through existing legislation," noted Urban Taskforce CEO Chris Johnson.
Mr Johnson pointed out that politics should not trump the need to address the NSW housing supply. Demand in Sydney is high and the city was a key driver of capital growth – alongside Perth and Melbourne – in Australian house prices during 2013.
